Narol House Used As Illegal Slaughterhouse, 110 Kg Meat Seized; Two Held

Police have busted an alleged illegal slaughterhouse operating from a residential house in Ahmedabad's Narol area and arrested two men after recovering 110 kg of meat, slaughtering weapons and two live buffaloes, officials said.

The raid was conducted at a house in New Muskan Nagar, opposite Bage Kausar B.K. School, following a tip-off received by Narol police during patrolling. Police, accompanied by an AMC sanitary inspector and panch witnesses, searched house number 11, where they allegedly found Mohammed Shahrukh Qureshi and Mohammed Salman Qureshi.

During the search, officers recovered an iron knife, knives, an axe, a spanner and meat from inside the house. They also found a buffalo and a calf tied in the rear gallery without adequate fodder or water.

During questioning, the two accused allegedly told police that they had purchased three animals from Shehzad Qureshi of Kathlal for Rs 72,000 on September 12 and brought them to Ahmedabad. They allegedly slaughtered one of the animals at the house the following morning.

A sample of the recovered meat was sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) by the sanitary inspector. The examination found that the meat was from a buffalo breed, police said.

Police destroyed the 110 kg meat, valued at around Rs 33,000, by adding kerosene and phenyl. A mobile phone valued at Rs 10,000 and slaughtering equipment were also seized, taking the total value of the seized property to around Rs 43,000.

The police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Gujarat Animal Preservation (Amendment) Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act and the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations (GPMC) Act. Further investigation is underway.

Probe Into Kathlal-Ahmedabad Cattle Supply Network

The investigation has also revealed that the accused allegedly procured the animals from Shehzad Qureshi in Kathlal before bringing them to Ahmedabad.

Police suspect that the animals were kept in the gallery of the residential property so that neighbours would not become suspicious, with slaughtering allegedly carried out in the morning.

Investigators are now probing where the meat was intended to be supplied and whether it was to be sold to traders or hotels in Ahmedabad.
