A special POCSO court in Ahmedabad has sentenced a 37-year-old man to three years in prison for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl at a residential complex in Naroda GIDC. Special Additional Sessions Judge N.H. Vasveliya convicted Shankarbhai Chauhan after hearing evidence presented by the prosecution.

Court Says Offence Deserved Serious Punishment

While delivering the verdict, the court noted that Chauhan and the girl lived in the residential quarters of Nildeep Ceramic at Mangal Estate, Naroda GIDC. The accused was married and had two children.

The court observed that sexual assault and harassment could not be treated lightly. It said that once the prosecution proved an offence beyond reasonable doubt, the court had a duty to award an appropriate sentence under the law.

Girl Attacked While Collecting Clothes

The incident took place at around 7.45 pm on January 17, 2025, when the girl went to collect clothes she had put out to dry at the company's residential quarters.

According to the prosecution, Chauhan approached her from behind, grabbed her and forcibly pushed her to the ground before sexually assaulting her.

Following the incident, the girl's maternal aunt approached Naroda police and filed a complaint. The police registered a case, arrested Chauhan and later submitted a chargesheet before the special POCSO court.

Prosecution Examines Eight Witnesses

During the trial, Special Public Prosecutor Vijaysinh Chavda presented the prosecution's case, examining eight witnesses and submitting eight documentary exhibits in support of the charges.

After considering the evidence and hearing arguments from both sides, the court found Chauhan guilty and sentenced him to three years in prison.
