Skull, Bones Found In Asarva Water Tank Sent To FSL; Police Await Report To Solve Mystery

The mystery surrounding a skull and two to three bones found inside a water tank at the Asarva Water Distribution Centre has now moved to the forensic stage, with the remains sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for examination.

Shahibaug police are awaiting the FSL report to establish whether the remains are human or animal. Although initial observations raised the possibility that the skull could be human, police have not confirmed its identity or origin.

The forensic examination is expected to provide the crucial answer and help investigators determine the direction of the probe.

FSL Report To Establish Whether Remains Are Human Or Animal

Police launched an investigation after the skull and bones were discovered inside the water tank.

The remains have been sent to the FSL, where they will be examined to determine their nature. Police are also seeking expert medical opinion as part of the process.

Until the forensic findings are received, investigators have not ruled out either possibility — that the remains are human or that they belong to an animal.

Police Probe How Remains Reached Water Tank

While awaiting the forensic report, investigators are also trying to establish how the skull and bones came to be inside the tank.

Police are examining different possibilities, including whether a person could have accidentally fallen into the tank or whether animal remains entered the premises from outside.

Investigators are also collecting information about movement around the water tank. The movements of a particular individual in the vicinity are reportedly being examined as part of the probe.

Tank Had Not Been Cleaned Since January 2025

The discovery has also brought a major maintenance lapse to light.

Ramya Bhatt, Deputy Municipal Commissioner of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's Central Zone, said the tank was last cleaned in January 2025.

As per regulations, water tanks are required to be cleaned every six months. However, the Asarva tank had reportedly not been cleaned for nearly two years.

AMC Initiates Blacklisting Process Against Contractor

The cleaning work had been assigned to M/s Krunal Builders.

The AMC has initiated proceedings to blacklist the agency for failing to carry out the scheduled cleaning of the water tank.

The lapse has come under scrutiny even as the police investigation continues into the discovery of the remains.

Water Centre Operations Managed By Another Agency

The operation and maintenance contract for the Asarva Water Distribution Centre has been awarded to an agency named Mahima, which manages the centre's operations.

Authorities are also examining why the tank was not cleaned regularly despite a separate contract being in place for the cleaning work.

For now, the key question remains unanswered: are the remains human or animal? Police are waiting for the FSL report to provide that answer.
