Mother-In-Law, Daughter-In-Law Killed As Container Hits Moped On Pardi Highway

A 65-year-old woman and her 35-year-old daughter-in-law were killed after a speeding container truck collided with their moped on the Pardi Highway near Vallabh Ashram in Valsad district on Friday afternoon, police said.

The victims, identified as Chetnaben Rakeshbhai Maisuriya (35) and her mother-in-law Shardaben Ramanbhai Maisuriya (65), were residents of Moti Chanvai village in Valsad. The two were returning home after shopping in Pardi when the accident occurred.

Container Driver Flees, Vehicle Intercepted On Atul Highway

According to police, Chetnaben and Shardaben had travelled to Pardi on an Access moped bearing registration number GJ-15-DF-6213 on Friday.

After completing their shopping, they were returning to Moti Chanvai when the speeding container truck collided with their moped near Vallabh Ashram on the Pardi Highway.

The impact left both women with severe head and bodily injuries. They died at the spot.

The container driver allegedly fled from the scene following the crash. However, people who witnessed the incident pursued the vehicle and managed to intercept it on the Atul Highway.

Police Send Bodies For Post-Mortem

Following the accident, police and local residents rushed to the spot. Police Inspector Y.B. Gohil and his team reached the location and took custody of the bodies.

The bodies were subsequently sent for post-mortem examinations.

The accident also caused a temporary traffic jam on the highway.

Family, Village Plunged Into Mourning

The deaths of the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law left their family in deep grief. A pall of gloom also descended on Moti Chanvai village following the tragedy.

Police have initiated proceedings to register a case against the container driver in connection with the accident.
