A marriage arranged through a matrimonial website has led to a police complaint after a 30-year-old woman accused her husband of concealing details about his previous marriage, demanding dowry, assaulting her and threatening her.

Gulfsha Khan, a resident of Vejalpur, alleged in her complaint that she met Mohammad Adil Abrar Ahmed through a matrimonial platform. According to her, Ahmed had represented himself as unmarried while stating that he had previously been married and was in the process of obtaining a divorce.

The couple subsequently decided to marry and travelled to Saudi Arabia, where they got married in Mecca on December 22, 2024. They returned to Ahmedabad later that month.

Woman alleges dowry demand of ₹7 lakh

According to Gulfsha’s complaint, she later moved to Delhi to live with Ahmed. She alleged that he began telling her about his debts and questioning why her parents had not given her dowry.

Following discussions with her parents, she claimed to have given him ₹3 lakh in cash and transferred another ₹4 lakh to his bank account.

Around four months after the marriage, Gulfsha allegedly discovered that Ahmed’s previous marriage had not been legally dissolved. When she questioned him about it, he allegedly became angry, abused her and physically assaulted her.

Moved to Bengaluru for work

Gulfsha further alleged that Ahmed subsequently asked her to move temporarily to Bengaluru, assuring her that they would eventually live together. She moved there in July 2025 and began working as a salon manager.

However, she claimed that Ahmed gradually reduced communication with her.

In March 2026, she returned to Delhi and stayed with her parents for around 15 days. During this period, she allegedly asked Ahmed about household items and gold ornaments given by her parents, but he refused to return them and allegedly abused her.

Woman alleges threats after approaching police

According to the complaint, Ahmed blocked her phone number by July. When she contacted him from another number, he allegedly told her that he no longer had anything to do with her.

Gulfsha said she approached Khajuri Khas police station in Delhi on July 8. She alleged that Ahmed subsequently asked her to meet him and threatened to kill her if she approached the police.

She later contacted the 181 women’s helpline but initially refrained from filing a complaint, hoping to save the marriage.

Vejalpur police register case

On October 1, Gulfsha approached Vejalpur police and lodged a complaint against Ahmed. She has alleged concealment of his previous marriage, dowry harassment, physical assault, threats and refusal to return her belongings.

Vejalpur police have registered a case and launched an investigation. The allegations against Ahmed have not yet been established in court.
