Man Arrested For Allegedly Snatching Gold Chain From Woman On BRTS Bus In Ahmedabad

Isanpur police have arrested a 35-year-old man for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a woman travelling on a BRTS bus in Ahmedabad. Police said the accused was identified with the help of CCTV footage and the stolen jewellery, valued at around ₹1.95 lakh, was recovered.

The incident took place on August 26 around 1.45 pm, when Induben Chetanbhai Patel, 43, boarded a BRTS bus from Ghodasar Four Roads to travel towards ISKCON.

According to police, the woman was standing inside the crowded bus when an unidentified man allegedly moved close to her and snatched her gold chain.

CCTV Footage Helps Police Trace Suspect

Following the complaint, Isanpur police registered a case and began examining CCTV footage from the BRTS route and surrounding areas to identify the suspect.

The surveillance squad analysed the available footage and traced the suspected chain-snatcher.

The accused was identified as Dilipbhai Govindbhai Dantani, 35, a resident of Khokhra, Ahmedabad. Police arrested him and recovered the allegedly stolen gold chain.

The recovered jewellery comprises a gold chain with a pendant weighing 14.29 grams. Police estimated its value at approximately ₹1.95 lakh.

Accused Has Previous Cases

Police said Dantani has previously been booked in at least three cases.

His reported criminal history includes a theft case registered at Ramol Police Station in 2022, a case under the Gambling Act registered at Khokhra Police Station in 2023, and another case registered at Isanpur Police Station in 2026 under the relevant provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

Police said the investigation is continuing to determine whether the accused was involved in other similar chain-snatching incidents in the city.
