Labourer Rescued After Soil Collapses During Drainage Pipe Laying Work in Ahmedabad

Swift action by local residents and fire department personnel saved the life of a construction worker who was buried under soil following a sudden earth collapse during drainage pipeline work at Ramapir no Tekro in the Vadaj area on Sunday.

The incident occurred during ongoing excavation operations for the municipal drainage line network. A section of the dug-up earth suddenly caved in, trapping a worker operating inside the deep trench under a heavy mound of loose dirt and debris.

Bystanders and First Responders Launch Immediate Operation

Alert onlookers and fellow labourers immediately raised an alarm and initiated preliminary efforts to clear the dirt surrounding the trapped worker's face to maintain his airway. Upon receiving an emergency call, team members from the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Fire and Emergency Services rushed to the site with specialized rescue gear.

Working through unstable ground conditions, fire brigade personnel used manual shoring methods and earth-clearing equipment to safely extract the buried worker. Rescuers managed to pull him out alive within an hour of the collapse.

Medical Evaluation and Safety Standard Review

The rescued worker was immediately transferred to a nearby civic-run medical facility via an 108 ambulance service. Doctors reported that he sustained non-life-threatening injuries and is currently undergoing observation and treatment for physical shock and minor soft-tissue trauma.

The sudden land collapse at Vadaj has once again raised questions regarding safety protocols implemented during deep excavation projects in densely populated urban stretches. Municipal authorities are reviewing the site conditions to ascertain if adequate trench shielding and safety barriers were deployed prior to commencing the pipe-laying work.
