A 31-year-old farmer from Kheda district died at Ahmedabad’s Asarwa Civil Hospital on October 13, five days after a tractor ran over him while he was attempting to restart it near Kothiya village.
Ashok Gotabhai Dabhi was travelling with his younger brother, Arvindbhai Gotabhai Dabhi, on October 8 when their tractor, loaded with gravel, ran out of diesel near Swayam Estate in the Kothiya village area of Ahmedabad district.
According to a complaint lodged by Arvind, the brothers were travelling from Shri Ganesh Depot, a building materials company near Kubadthal Patiya in Daskroi, towards Kuha village.
Ashok, who was driving the tractor, asked his younger brother to fetch diesel. After Arvind returned, Ashok refilled the tank and tried to restart the vehicle.
When the tractor failed to start, Ashok attempted to remove air from the fuel system before trying to start it manually.
Tractor Rear Wheel Runs Over Farmer
Ashok stood on the left side of the tractor, operating the starter with his right hand while engaging the clutch with his left. He was unaware that the vehicle was in gear.
When he released the clutch, the tractor moved forward, and its large rear wheel ran over him, causing severe injuries to his head and body.
Arvind called an emergency ambulance, and Ashok was taken to a hospital in Singarwa. He was later shifted to Asarwa Civil Hospital for further treatment.
He died at around 2 am on October 13, five days after the incident, according to the complaint.

Ashok is survived by his wife, Divyaben, and their two sons, aged 12 and eight.
