Four porters stranded for two nights at Bhojkhadak following an avalanche near Kedartal on October 29 survived on a single packet of porridge before finding a way down to safety as weather conditions improved.

The four were separated from the rest of their trekking team while returning from Kedartal. Repeated avalanches both ahead of and behind them made it impossible to descend, forcing them to remain at Bhojkhadak through the nights of October 29 and 30.

Rescue operations entered their sixth day, with seven trekkers still missing in the Kedartal incident.

Porters Follow Bear Tracks to Reach Safety

Rohan Rana, a porter and cook from Nald in Uttarkashi who survived the incident, told the local media that the group became separated from the rest of the team on October 29 while returning along the route between Kedarkhadak and Bhojkhadak.

With avalanches continuing along the route, the four porters could not move downhill and were forced to spend two nights at Bhojkhadak.

They had only one packet of daliya (porridge), which they shared to survive the two nights.

On the morning of October 31, the weather cleared, and they spotted bear tracks leading downhill. Following the tracks, they managed to descend and reach safety.

Families Await News of Seven Missing Trekkers

Meanwhile, families of the trekkers who remain missing are hoping for their safe return as rescue operations continue.

Subrato Mondal from West Bengal said his uncle, Rintu Mondal, was part of the trekking group along with five friends. Rintu works as a supervisor at a private company.

Atul Verma from Uttar Pradesh said his two sisters, Vartika Verma and Deepika Verma, were also among the trekkers. Vartika is a freelance influencer, while Deepika works as a graphic designer for a multinational corporation.

With seven trekkers still unaccounted for, their families continue to await updates from the ongoing rescue operation.
