Kankaria To Get Two New Toy Trains Worth ₹3.5 Crore, Old Ones To Retire

The old toy train operating around Kankaria Lake is set to be retired, with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) planning to introduce two new trains at a cost of around ₹3.5 crore.

The coaches for the new trains have been prepared in Vatva, while their engines have been manufactured in Pune. Both trains are expected to reach the Kankaria premises next week.

Trial runs to begin after assembly

According to the Assistant Municipal Commissioner of the Maninagar ward, the coaches and engines will be assembled after reaching Kankaria, following which trial runs of the new trains will be conducted.

The trial process is expected to take around two months. After the trials, the two existing trains will reportedly be phased out one by one and replaced with the new trains.

Each new train will have the capacity to carry around 150 passengers at a time.

Six vacant spaces to get new activities

Meanwhile, the AMC is also planning to introduce new activities at six vacant locations within the Kankaria Lake premises.

The civic body has invited offers from private agencies to develop various activities under the PPP model.

However, the proposed activities will have to comply with certain conditions. Activities likely to generate excessive noise, lighting or smoke will not be permitted in the lakefront premises.

Kankaria Lake currently has several popular attractions, including:

• Balvatika
• Kids City
• Butterfly Park
• Nagina Wadi

The introduction of the two new toy trains and additional activities is expected to add to the attractions available at the Kankaria Lakefront.
