Following sweeping space sector reforms introduced in 2020, India’s industrial landscape has expanded from a handful of private entities to roughly 440 space start-ups. These enterprises now develop launch vehicles, satellite hardware, and specialized downstream applications.

Dr Narayanan noted the successful orbital mission of Skyroot Aerospace’s Vikram 1 rocket as a definitive milestone for private spaceflight. He reportedly emphasized that meeting future national targets  including the deployment of over 300 satellites within six to seven years relies entirely on sustained institutional synergy between ISRO, start-ups, and the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Centre (IN-SPACe).

Deep-Space Exploration and Orbital Stations

Beyond the immediate Gaganyaan timeline, ISRO is pushing forward with deep-space research and long-term orbital infrastructure. Advanced plans are underway for the Chandrayaan-4 and Chandrayaan-5 lunar missions, an un-crewed expedition to Venus, and a future Mars landing effort.
