Dalip Thirani, 75, a businessman engaged in the iron and steel trade, lives at the house with his wife Manju, 70, son Raghubhai, 42, and daughter-in-law Nandini, 43.
Thirani told police that he was in the garden around 7.30 am when his son informed him that an inner cupboard in his room and a dressing table drawer had been opened and their contents scattered.
The family then checked a room on the first floor, where they allegedly found a window open and the iron grille fitted outside it widened.
Police suspect the burglar entered the house through the opening created in the grill.
Gold, Diamond Jewellery And ₹20,000 Cash Missing
On checking the house, the family found several valuables missing, according to the complaint.
The stolen articles allegedly included:
- A gold and diamond-studded ring, containing around 3.65 grams of gold and diamonds, valued at approximately ₹2.5 lakh
- A gold bangle weighing around 8.87 grams, valued at approximately ₹3.5 lakh
- A gold and diamond-studded bracelet, estimated to be worth around ₹70,000
- ₹20,000 in cash kept in different denominations
The total value of the stolen jewellery and cash was estimated at around ₹6.9 lakh.
Navrangpura Police Launch Investigation
Thirani and his son later approached the Navrangpura police and lodged a complaint against an unidentified person.
Police have registered a case and begun an investigation. Officers are examining the alleged entry point, the widened iron grill and the rooms from which the valuables were reported missing.
Investigators are also expected to scrutinise CCTV footage from the surrounding area and collect other evidence in an effort to identify and trace the accused.
