Chandkheda biker booked after woman dies days after road accident

The Ahmedabad Traffic Police have registered a criminal case against a motorcycle rider after a 56-year-old woman succumbed to injuries sustained in a road accident in Chandkheda, nearly two weeks after the incident.

According to the L Traffic Police, the deceased has been identified as Kantaben Savabhai Sarola (56), who was allegedly hit by a speeding motorcycle while crossing the road near Shreeji Villa Bungalows on Motera Road at around 10.30 pm on June 11.

The complaint was lodged by the victim's son, Bharatbhai Savabhai Sarola (30), a daily-wage labourer residing opposite Shreeji Villa in Chandkheda. He alleged that his mother had finished work at a nearby bungalow and was returning home when the motorcycle, allegedly being ridden at high speed and in a rash and negligent manner from Ring Road towards Motera Road, struck her.

Family members rushed to the spot after hearing the impact and found Kantaben lying on the road with severe head injuries and multiple other injuries. The motorcycle rider, identified as Ajay Rajeshbhai Dantani, a resident of Chandkheda, also sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Both were shifted to a nearby private hospital for treatment. Due to the seriousness of her injuries, Kantaben was later referred to Civil Hospital, Asarwa, on June 13, where she died while undergoing treatment at around 6.30 pm on June 14.

The complainant told police that the family initially did not file a complaint as they were focused on his mother's treatment. The FIR was lodged later after discussions with relatives and community elders.

Based on the complaint, the L Traffic Police have registered a case against the motorcycle rider for causing death by rash and negligent driving. The motorcycle involved in the accident has been identified and seized as part of the investigation.

Police said they are examining witness statements and other evidence to determine the exact circumstances that led to the fatal accident. Further investigation is underway.
