Ahmedabad Woman Lawyer Harassed For 12 Years by Man, Complaint Filed

A 36-year-old woman lawyer from Memco has filed a complaint against a man who allegedly harassed her for 12 years over one-sided love, pressured her for marriage and made obscene demands.

The accused allegedly sent her repeated emails threatening to consume poison or jump onto a railway track if she refused to meet him. The woman eventually approached Shahibaug Police after the alleged harassment continued.

Harassment Allegedly Began 12 Years Ago

The woman was working at a company on Relief Road 12 years ago and used to travel by shuttle rickshaw from near Rajiv Gandhi Bhavan in Memco.

According to her complaint, a man would regularly sit beside her in the rickshaw, attempt to speak to her and ask for her mobile number.

Troubled by his behaviour, she approached Shahibaug Police at the time. During the inquiry, the man was identified as Deepak Panchal. The matter subsequently quietened down.

Accused Allegedly Resumed Harassing Her

The complaint states that Panchal became active again from July 25 and began sending the woman repeated emails.

He allegedly pressured her to marry him and made obscene demands through the emails. He also allegedly followed her and threatened to end his life by jumping onto a railway track or consuming poison if she did not meet him.

Police Begin Investigation

Unable to tolerate the alleged harassment any longer, the woman approached Shahibaug Police and filed a complaint against Panchal.

Police have initiated legal proceedings and begun investigating the allegations.
