Heavy Rain Alert: Ahmedabad Closes All Lake Gardens for 2 Days, Cancels Jaya Parvati Vrat Night Events

With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a heavy to extremely heavy rainfall alert across Gujarat, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has swung into action, shutting down all civic lake gardens for two days and cancelling special night programmes organised for Jaya Parvati Vrat at prominent public venues.

The civic body’s precautionary directive came into immediate effect today as meteorologists warned of intense downpours across the city over the next 48 hours.

Jaya Parvati Vrat Night Celebrations Postponed

Among the major public gatherings impacted by the torrential rain alert are the traditional night celebrations arranged for women and young girls observing the Jaya Parvati Vrat. The AMC has called off all evening events and special arrangements previously slated at the Sabarmati Riverfront gardens and Kankaria Lake.

Under normal circumstances, civic authorities deploy dedicated entry corridors, lighting, and safety provisions at designated parks along the Sabarmati Riverfront and around Kankaria Lake to accommodate fasting devotees. Municipal officials confirmed that these special facilities and entry arrangements will remain unavailable for the duration of the alert.

Public Access Banned Across All Lake Gardens

As part of wider safety precautions, the civic authority has enforced a blanket ban on public entry across every lake garden and waterfront park in the city for the next 48 hours.

Appealing directly to residents, municipal officials urged citizens to refrain from visiting water bodies, riverfront promenades, or civic gardens during the storm warning. The administration emphasised that the measures have been enacted purely in the interest of public safety and advised residents to follow official weather updates and administrative advisories closely.
