Gulbai Tekra Raid: Man Arrested With 140g Ganja Kept for Sale

A 26-year-old man was arrested after Gujarat University police allegedly recovered 140g of cannabis from his house in Gulbai Tekra, Ahmedabad.

Police identified the accused as Gopal Ratnabhai Makwana, a resident of Moda Devana Vas in Gulbai Tekra near the old Passport Office in Navrangpura.

Police said they received information that Makwana was keeping cannabis at his house and selling it in small quantities. Acting on the tip-off, a team raided house number 218.

During the search, officers found a black polythene bag hidden between a mattress and a blanket placed on a metal box. The bag contained dried leaves and stems.

An FSL scientific officer examined the substance and confirmed it was cannabis. A digital weighing scale showed the net quantity to be 140 grams.

Police also seized two packets of small transparent zip-lock bags and nine loose bags, along with the cannabis and weighing scale. The total seized property was valued at around ₹12,000.

Cannabis Allegedly Brought from Gomtipur

During questioning, Makwana allegedly told police that he had brought the cannabis two days earlier from an unidentified person near the Gomtipur Bridge.

Police said he had kept the cannabis at home for retail sale. A separate case has also been registered against the unidentified person from whom the accused allegedly obtained the substance, and further investigation is underway.

Seizure Proceedings Shifted to Police Station

Police said a crowd began gathering outside the one-room tin-sheet house during the raid, raising concerns about a possible law-and-order situation.

The accused and seized items were therefore taken to Gujarat University Police Station. On the first floor of the station, an FSL official and a digital weighing-scale dealer were called in, following which the seizure panchnama and weighing procedure were completed.
