Gujarat weather: IMD forecasts light rain in 9 districts till July 1
Gujarat weather update

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light rainfall in nine Gujarat districts over the next 24 hours, while light to moderate rain is expected across several parts of the state till July 1 following the official onset of the southwest monsoon.

According to IMD data, rainfall was recorded in eight talukas across Gujarat during the last 24 hours. Khedbrahma in Sabarkantha district received the highest rainfall at 16 mm (0.63 inches), while Umargam in Valsad recorded 1 mm.

The weather department said rainfall activity is likely to remain relatively weak on June 26, with isolated showers expected mainly over south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra.

IMD issues rain forecast for coastal Gujarat

The IMD has predicted light rainfall in Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu, while most parts of north Gujarat are expected to witness dry weather.

The department has also forecast strong southwesterly to westerly winds blowing at 15 to 20 knots, with gusts reaching 25 knots, along the south Gujarat and Saurashtra coastline. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also likely in isolated places.

In Ahmedabad, the sky is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with the maximum temperature likely to touch 41 degrees Celsius.

Two cyclonic circulations active over the region

According to the IMD, two weather systems are currently influencing rainfall over Gujarat. An upper-air cyclonic circulation is active over central Pakistan and adjoining north Rajasthan at around 1.5 km above mean sea level.

Another cyclonic circulation persists over southeastern Madhya Pradesh, while a trough extends from the system across north Gujarat to the east-central Arabian Sea, influencing wind patterns and rainfall across the state.

Gujarat weather forecast till July 1

The northern limit of the southwest monsoon currently passes through Surat, Indore and Motihari and is expected to advance further over Gujarat and adjoining parts of Madhya Pradesh over the next three to four days.

June 27: Light rain is likely at isolated places in all districts of south Gujarat, besides Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir Somnath and Diu.

June 28 to July 1: Rainfall activity is expected to intensify, with light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms likely over Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, other parts of north Gujarat, south Gujarat and coastal Saurashtra.
