A mother and her son have been booked under the Gujarat Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act for allegedly occupying a rented house in the Singarva area of Nikol without paying rent since January 2024 and refusing to vacate it despite repeated requests from the owner.

Nikol police registered the case after the Land Grabbing Committee at the District Collector’s office gave a favourable opinion on a complaint filed by property owner Jitendrakumar Vasoya. An Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) has been assigned the investigation.

Rent Payments Stopped in January 2024

Vasoya, a resident of India Colony in Bapunagar who runs a tools business at Sumel-7, purchased House No. 15 in Amarnath Park, Singarva, through a registered deed in 2018.

In 2019, he rented the house to Sharadaben Rameshbhai Raval for residential use at a monthly rent of ₹4,500. According to the complaint, the family paid rent regularly from 2019 to 2023, with rental agreements renewed periodically.

However, Sharadaben and her son, Pintubhai Raval, allegedly stopped paying rent from January 2024.

Owner Approaches Land Grabbing Committee

Vasoya repeatedly approached the mother and son, asking them to clear the outstanding rent and vacate the property. The two allegedly refused to leave and continued occupying the house.

After these efforts failed, Vasoya filed an application with the Land Grabbing Committee at the District Collector’s office.

Following the committee’s favourable opinion, Nikol police registered a case against the duo under the relevant provisions of the Gujarat Land Grabbing (Prohibition) Act.

The investigation has been handed over to an ACP to examine the allegations.
