Gujarat Bar Council Elections: P D Patel Named Chairman, Anil Kella Co-Chairman

The Gujarat Bar Council held a special general meeting on Saturday to elect its chairman, vice-chairman and other office-bearers. During the meeting, former Bar Council chairman J.J. Patel was appointed as the Gujarat representative to the Bar Council of India (BCI).

P.D. Patel was elected chairman, senior member Anil C. Kella was elected co-chairman, and advocate Nimisha Dhotre was elected vice-chairman. All office-bearers were elected unopposed, as no member raised an objection or announced plans to contest the elections.

15 committees formed

J.J. Patel, who was elected unopposed as a BCI member, is expected to play an important role in legal and administrative matters at the national level.

The Gujarat Bar Council’s 25-member quorum was completed after a delay in appointing two women co-opted members following the elections held in March. Former Gujarat High Court judge Mona M. Bhatt and senior advocate Megha Jani, who were approved as co-opted members by Chief Justice Sunita Agarwal, attended the meeting.

Anil C. Kella has also been included in the Administrative Committee, which takes important decisions regarding financial assistance to the families of deceased advocates.

Following the election of the office-bearers, 15 committees—including the Enrollment Committee, Finance Committee, Rules Committee, GLH Committee and Administrative Committee—were formed, and their members were appointed. Around 26 disciplinary committees were also constituted.
