Gujarat ATS Seizes Tramadol Tablets Worth ₹8.32 Cr

In one of the largest seizures of psychotropic substances in recent months, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has seized 2.08 lakh Tramadol Hydrochloride tablets worth an estimated ₹8.32 crore in the international illicit market and arrested a Rajasthan-based medical stockist allegedly involved in trafficking the banned psychotropic drug across several states.

ATS receives specific intelligence

According to the Gujarat ATS, Deputy Superintendent of Police S L Chaudhary received specific intelligence that Paresh Parasmal Jain, a native of Sadri in Rajasthan and currently residing in Pardi, Valsad district, had been engaged in the illegal trade of the psychotropic substance Tramadol for an extended period.

After obtaining the necessary approvals from senior officers, the ATS developed the intelligence through technical surveillance and human sources.

Consignment allegedly disguised as pharmaceutical products

Investigators allegedly found that a consignment of Tramadol tablets had been dispatched from Ankleshwar on June 25 aboard an MR Travels luxury bus bound for Pali in Rajasthan.

According to the ATS, the consignment had allegedly been concealed under the guise of legitimate pharmaceutical products by describing it as other medicines in the tax invoice issued in the name of New Mahavir Medical.

Luxury bus intercepted in Ahmedabad

Acting on the intelligence, a joint operation was launched under the guidance of ATS Superintendent of Police K Siddharth and led by DySP S L Chaudhary.

The ATS intercepted the luxury bus near the MR Travels office at Namaste Circle in Shahibaug, Ahmedabad, shortly after midnight.

During the search, officers recovered Box No. 6 containing 416 smaller cartons. Each carton was found to contain strips labelled 'Tramadol Hydrochloride I.P. Tablets 100 mg – Scovidol-100'.

Police seized 4,160 strips containing a total of 2.08 lakh Tramadol tablets. The seized psychotropic substance is estimated to have an international illicit market value of approximately ₹8.32 crore.

Prime accused arrested from Rajasthan

During the investigation, the ATS learnt that the prime accused had fled to Rajasthan.

A team of ATS officers tracked him down and arrested him from Gogunda taluka in Udaipur district.

ATS alleges supply of over 62 lakh Tramadol tablets

During interrogation, the ATS alleged that Jain had procured 62.54 lakh Tramadol tablets in 25 consignments between May 2026 and June 2026.

According to investigators, he primarily supplied the psychotropic drug to buyers in Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The ATS further alleged that after obtaining a medical stockist licence in May this year, Jain had predominantly used the business to trade in Tramadol.

Previous NDPS cases and Vapi connection

Police claimed that Jain has a criminal history under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

According to the ATS, he was previously arrested in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, and Thane, Maharashtra, in separate cases involving the illegal possession and transportation of codeine-based cough syrup.

Investigators also stated that Jain's name had surfaced during last month's investigation into the seizure of 2.38 kg of mephedrone in Vapi, in which four accused were arrested.

Investigation continues

ATS officials said efforts are now underway to identify the wider network involved in the procurement, transportation and distribution of the psychotropic substance.

Further investigation is in progress to trace other members of the alleged interstate drug syndicate.
