Gujarat ATS Arrests Punjab Gang Member Wanted in Batala Firing Case

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) has arrested a Punjab man allegedly associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang and wanted in connection with a firing case in Batala, officials said on Tuesday.

The accused, identified as Sukhpinder Singh alias Sukhi, a native of Loh Chap village in Batala taluka of Punjab's Gurdaspur district, was traced to Palanpur following a tip-off received by Gujarat ATS Superintendent of Police K Siddhartha.

He was wanted in a case registered at Sekhwan police station in Batala under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Arms Act.

Traced To Palanpur After ATS Tip-Off

According to the ATS, information was received that Sukhpinder was staying in the Palanpur area. An ATS team subsequently conducted checks at hotels in the city.

On the evening of August 22, the team located him at Hotel Sundara in Palanpur and brought him to the Gujarat ATS headquarters in Ahmedabad for questioning.

During preliminary interrogation, Sukhpinder allegedly told investigators that he was associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria gang. He also allegedly admitted to his involvement in a firing incident reported on July 20, 2026.

According to the ATS, Sukhpinder allegedly fired at the premises near the sheller of the complainant, Mahkdeep Singh, along with Sahibdeep Singh, Gagandeep Singh and Vikramjit Singh alias Vicky.

Accused Allegedly Moved Across States To Evade Arrest

After the firing incident, Sukhpinder allegedly went with Vikramjit to the house of his friend Harmeet Kaur in Thikariwal village in Qadian.

The ATS said he handed over his licensed .30-06 rifle to his cousin, Manjot Singh, before moving between several locations to evade arrest.

He allegedly stayed at a hotel near Kharar for around seven to eight days before travelling through Delhi, Hyderabad and Nanded in Maharashtra. He eventually reached Palanpur, where he was traced and detained by the Gujarat ATS.

Criminal Cases Registered in Punjab and Gujarat

The ATS said Sukhpinder had a criminal history spanning several years, with cases involving attempted murder, criminal intimidation, rioting and offences under the Arms Act registered against him.

Among the cases cited by the agency is a 2018 case registered at Dhariwal police station under provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act. Other cases were registered at Civil Lines Batala, Rangar Nangal and by the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) in Punjab.

A separate case was also registered against him at Amirgadh police station in Gujarat's Banaskantha district in 2019 under provisions of the IPC and the Arms Act, the ATS said.

The agency further stated that Sukhpinder had spent around nine months in jail in Dubai in 2021 in connection with an alleged ICE/drug-related case.

The Gujarat ATS has informed the Punjab Police about his detention and further legal proceedings are underway to hand him over to the concerned authorities in Punjab in connection with the Batala firing case.
