Gold Ornaments Worth ₹11 Lakh Stolen From Home in Ahmedabad's Usmanpura

A thief allegedly stole four gold ornaments weighing 123.640 grams and valued at approximately ₹11 lakh from a house in the Usmanpura area of Ahmedabad, police said.

The incident occurred on August 31 inside a residential unit in Shantinagar Society, situated near the Gulab Shanti Temple and Jain Derasar.

According to the official complaint lodged with the Vadaj police, the complainant, Shantilal Bansilal Shah (64), runs a metal trade business under the name Sachin Steel in Rakhial. He resides at the Usmanpura property with his 61-year-old wife, Jamnaben Shantilal Shah.

The couple had originally purchased the four gold items on August 25, 2007, and routinely stored them inside a wooden cupboard located in their primary bedroom.

Missing Jewellery Discovered On Kajari Teej

The sequence of events leading to the discovery began on August 30, when Jamnaben wore the gold ornaments to a local social function. After returning home at roughly 4.30 pm that afternoon, she placed all four pieces back inside the wooden bedroom cupboard for safekeeping.

The following day, August 31, coincided with the festival of Kajari Teej. Jamnaben personally checked the cupboard contents at around 4 pm and confirmed that the four gold ornaments were still sitting inside the cabinet.

However, when she went back to the same cupboard at around 7 pm to retrieve the pieces to wear for the evening festivities, the jewellery had disappeared.

She immediately alerted her husband. The couple conducted a thorough search across the entire house and systematically checked the cupboard again, but failed to trace the missing gold.

Accessible Premises During Three-Hour Window

Police officials examining the sequence stated that the crime took place within a narrow three-hour window between 4 pm and 7 pm on August 31. According to details provided in the formal complaint, the house remained accessible to individuals during this specific period when the theft occurred.

Despite the immediate discovery on the evening of August 31, the family could not report the matter to law enforcement right away.

Shah had to travel to Mumbai on pressing business commitments shortly after the incident took place, delaying the formal filing of the case until his return to Gujarat.

Vadaj Police Launch Investigation

After returning to Ahmedabad, Shah approached the authorities and lodged an official police complaint on September 10.

To assist the investigation and establish legal ownership, the complainant submitted copies of the original August 2007 purchase bills detailing the precise weight of 123.640 grams and the valuation of the stolen ornaments.

The Vadaj police station has registered a formal case against an unknown perpetrator under relevant sections for theft.

Investigating officers are currently probing the circumstances surrounding the break-in, reviewing accessibility to the bedroom during those three hours, and pursuing local leads to identify and apprehend the culprit.
