LCB Zone-8 team detains two
During the investigation, the LCB Zone-8 team received information about the suspects and detained two men allegedly linked to the crime.
The accused have been identified as Meheralam alias Anas Istiyakbhai Ansari, 24, a rickshaw driver from Sant Gajendra Gadkarnagar Char-Maliya, and Raja alias Kalia Anwarbhai Ansari, 26, a labourer from Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Char-Maliya.
During questioning, the accused allegedly told police that they would travel by rickshaw to Vatva GIDC late at night, identify Eicher trucks parked on the roads, break the locks of their diesel tanks and steal the fuel.
Police seized 150 litres of diesel, the rickshaw allegedly used in the offence and mobile phones from the accused. The total value of the seized items was estimated at ₹74,850.
The LCB is now searching for the third accused allegedly involved in the theft and is investigating whether the group was involved in similar diesel thefts from commercial vehicles in the area.
