Ganesh Visarjan in Ahmedabad: Major Bridges, Riverfront and Core City Roads Closed From 1 PM; Check Police Traffic Advisory and Diversions

Major thoroughfares across Ahmedabad, including Sardar Bridge, Ellisbridge, and both East and West Sabarmati Riverfront roads, will be closed to general traffic from 1 pm on Friday (25 September) to facilitate Ganesh Visarjan immersion processions. The Ahmedabad City Police Commissioner has issued a formal notification detailing extensive road blockades, police deployments, and alternative routes to maintain law and order while managing heavy traffic gridlocks across the city.

Traffic authorities have warned that central arteries like Ashram Road will experience heavy congestion throughout the afternoon and evening. Passengers heading to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport or Kalupur Railway Station are strongly advised to leave at least one to two hours earlier than scheduled to avoid missing flights or trains.

Key Road Closures and Recommended Diversions

Police teams have cordoned off key corridors along procession routes. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys using the officially notified diversions:

• Sardar Bridge & Paldi Corridor: The stretch from ST Geeta Mandir to Jamalpur Bridge and over Sardar Bridge towards Paldi remains closed.
  • Diversion: Move under Jamalpur Bridge toward Behrampura, turn right at Danilimda Cross Roads, cross Ambedkar Bridge to Anjali Cross Roads, and proceed to Paldi or Ashram Road.
• ST Geeta Mandir to Kalupur Station: The route from ST Geeta Mandir via Raipur Cross Roads and Sarangpur Circle to the Railway Station In-Gate is closed.
  • Diversion: From ST Station, head to Bhulabhai Cross Roads via Kankaria Chowki, Apsara Cinema, Anupam Cinema, Gomtipur Railway Colony, Kalidas Cross Roads, Saraspur Ambedkar Hall, over Kalupur Bridge towards Naroda.
• Kalupur to Ellisbridge Belt: Traffic is blocked from Kalupur Railway Station through Sarangpur Circle, Kagdapith, Raipur Cross Roads, Astodia Darwaja, Khamasa Cross Roads, Victoria Garden, and over Ellisbridge to Town Hall.
  • Diversion: Route via Kalupur Circle, Ambedkar Hall, Gomtipur Railway Colony, Anupam Cinema, Apsara Cinema, Danilimda, Ambedkar Bridge, Anjali Cross Roads, to Paldi and Ashram Road.
• Rakhial & Saraspur Stretch: Closed from Rakhial Cross Roads via Kalidas Cross Roads, Chartola Kabrasthan, Dabba Bazar, Saraspur ITI to Gurudwara Cross Roads.
  • Diversion: Take Rakhial Cross Roads to Garib Nagar, Memco Cross Roads, and Naroda Fruit Market route to reach Kalupur.
• Delhi Darwaja & Dadhichi Bridge Belt: Blocked from Delhi Darwaja Namaste Circle via Traffic Bhavan to Kendriya Vidyalaya cut and Dadhichi Bridge, as well as from Delhi Darwaja via Limda Chowk to Litho Press and Dadhichi Bridge.
  • Diversion: Go from Delhi Darwaja via Idgah Circle through Asarwa to Sahibaug, or take Delhi Darwaja to Shahpur Cross Roads, Shankar Bhavan, Gandhi Bridge, and Income Tax Cross Roads. Both East and West Riverfront roads remain entirely closed.
