Father-Son Duo Held After Snatching ₹1.10 Lakh Gold Chain From Elderly Woman At Knifepoint In Khokhra

A 63-year-old woman was allegedly threatened at knifepoint and robbed of her 12-gram gold chain worth ₹1.10 lakh while she was walking to a bank with her husband in Ahmedabad's Khokhra area on Wednesday. The two suspects, who allegedly fled on a scooter after the robbery, were caught by local residents after their vehicle skidded a short distance from the spot.

The Khokhra police have registered a case and initiated legal proceedings. One of the suspects was found to be the woman's alleged assailant's 17-year-old son.

According to the complaint, Amravatidevi Rajendraprasad Tripathi, 63, a native of Ambedkarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, lives with her family at Ravji Patel's Chali in Amraiwadi.

On September 17, she and her husband left home on foot at around 11 am to visit a Bank of Baroda branch near the Maninagar underpass.

Two Men Allegedly Approached Couple From Behind

At around 11.30 am, when the couple reached the Khokhra Maniyasa Mahalaxmi Colony Road, two men allegedly approached them from behind on a white-and-green Access scooter.

According to the complaint, both men had covered their faces with black raincoats and were wearing helmets. They stopped near the couple, following which the pillion rider got off the scooter and approached Amravatidevi.

The man allegedly brandished a knife and threatened her, demanding that she hand over her gold chain or face fatal consequences.

As the woman became frightened, the accused allegedly grabbed the chain from her neck and forcibly pulled it away, causing it to break. The two men then allegedly fled on the scooter with the broken chain.

Scooter Skids During Escape

The alleged robbery, however, was followed by an abrupt turn of events. A short distance from the spot, the scooter reportedly skidded, causing both men to fall onto the road.

Hearing the couple's cries for help, local residents rushed towards the two men and allegedly caught them.

Meanwhile, Amravatidevi's husband contacted the 112 emergency control room. Police personnel patrolling nearby also reached the spot after noticing the gathering and took the two suspects into custody.

Police Begin Investigation

During the investigation, police found that the two suspects were a father and his 17-year-old minor son, according to the complaint.

Police have initiated legal proceedings in connection with the alleged robbery and are investigating the circumstances of the incident, including the roles of both suspects and the recovery of the stolen gold chain.

The case is being investigated by Khokhra police.
