Fake Branded Cooking Oil Seized From Ahmedabad Shop; 44 Tins Worth ₹1.25 Lakh Recovered

Rakhiyal police have registered a case against a shopkeeper after allegedly finding 44 tins of counterfeit branded cottonseed oil at a shop in the Rakhiyal area of Ahmedabad.

The case was registered under the Copyright Act against trader Amit Kushwaha after the suspected counterfeit oil was recovered from Ghaniwala Traders near Gujarat Bakery on September 12.

44 Tins Found With Duplicate Labels And Seals

According to the complaint, Bhushan Dani, who works for a private company, received information that duplicate tins of his company's cottonseed oil were being sold at the shop.

Acting on the information, Dani approached Rakhiyal police and carried out a search of the shop. Amit Kushwaha was found at the premises during the inspection.

Police allegedly recovered 44 tins carrying the company's cottonseed oil labels, barcodes and red-coloured duplicate seals. The tins were valued at ₹2,850 each, taking the total value of the seized stock to ₹1,25,400.

Shopkeeper Allegedly Used Discarded Oil Tins

During questioning, Kushwaha allegedly told police that he bought empty oil tins in good condition from scrap dealers and filled them with oil purchased from other companies.

He allegedly said he then applied duplicate seals to the tins and sold the oil in the market at the price of the original branded product, causing financial loss to the company.

Rakhiyal police have seized the 44 suspected counterfeit oil tins and registered a case against Kushwaha. Further investigation is underway.
