A 49-year-old woman from Ahmedabad’s Sarkhej area has alleged that her estranged husband and his friend broke into her locked house and stole household belongings worth more than ₹1.5 lakh before allegedly installing a GPS tracking device on her scooter to monitor her movements.
Sherbanu, wife of Ehsan Ali Bhowania, lodged a complaint at Sarkhej police station, alleging that she had been living separately from her husband with their three children since April 2023 following marital disputes. She has also filed maintenance and domestic violence cases against him, which are pending before courts.
Household Goods Allegedly Stolen From Locked House
According to the complaint, Sherbanu locked her house at Bagh Mustafa near Makarba Road on March 21 and went to her father’s house with her children.
When she returned the next day, she allegedly found that several household articles were missing.
As neighbouring houses were closed for the festival, she checked the CCTV footage installed in the society. The footage allegedly showed her husband, Ehsan Ali Bhowania, and his friend, Mehdi Khadimbhai Bhowania, both residents of Ilol Pahadiya in Himatnagar, entering the house at around 1.30 am on March 22.
The two men allegedly took the household articles away in two small goods vehicles before locking the house again and leaving. Sherbanu estimated the value of the missing belongings at more than ₹1.5 lakh.
Woman Alleges GPS Tracker Was Fitted To Scooter
Sherbanu further alleged that her husband had previously been suspicious of her movements whenever she travelled on her Jupiter scooter, which is registered in her name and is also used by her daughter.
She said that on September 3, she left the scooter at a nearby garage for servicing. The garage owner, Irfanbhai, allegedly noticed a black GPS device fitted to the front portion of the scooter while opening the vehicle for servicing.
Sherbanu told police that she had not installed any such device and suspected that her estranged husband was behind it. She asked the garage owner to record a video of the device, which he later sent to her.
Sarkhej Police Begin Investigation
In her complaint, Sherbanu alleged that the GPS device had been fitted to track her movements and keep a watch on her, which she said interfered with her personal life and caused fear and mental harassment to her and her children.
Sarkhej police have registered a case based on the complaint. Police said further action would be taken after examining the CCTV footage, the alleged GPS device and other evidence.
