According to police, the victim, Vijayalakshmiben Yadav (60), a resident of the Vande Mataram area, was travelling with her husband to Sardarnagar Ambawadi on July 3. The couple boarded an AMTS bus from a bus stop near their residence at around 10 am.
Theft Allegedly Took Place On Bus
Police said the bus was crowded, and the accused allegedly took advantage of the rush to remove a small purse from inside Vijayalakshmiben’s handbag without her noticing.
The couple later got off at the Nava Vadaj-Akhbarnagar AMTS bus stand to change buses for the rest of their journey.
Theft Came To Light After Getting Off
After getting down from the bus, Vijayalakshmiben noticed that her handbag was open. When she checked it, she found that the small purse kept inside was missing.
According to the complaint, the purse contained four gold bangles weighing one tola each. The total value of the stolen jewellery has been estimated at around ₹4 lakh.
Two Accused Arrested
Police have arrested Bhalaji Thakor, a resident of Chandkheda originally from Kheda district, and Deepak Kansara, a resident of Khokhra, in connection with the theft.
Police said Bhalaji Thakor, who works as an auto-rickshaw driver, has a previous criminal record and was earlier arrested by Narol police in a prohibition case.
Another accused, Mayur Dabhi, a resident of Isanpur, is absconding. Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest him.
