Municipal Commissioner Banchhanidhi Pani said institutions generating more than 100 kg of waste daily, housing societies with a built-up area of over 20,000 square metres, and commercial complexes will now have to process their own waste.
They will be required to compost wet waste on-site and process other categories of waste independently, in line with the Supreme Court's directions and the new Solid Waste Management Rules.

Under the new system, waste will be segregated into plastic waste, wet waste, dry waste, and hazardous waste, with each category collected separately to improve recycling, scientific disposal, and overall waste management in Ahmedabad.
