East Ahmedabad Gets New Mortuary At LG Hospital With 18 Cold Storage Units

A new mortuary was inaugurated at the Sheth LG Municipal General Hospital in Maninagar on Wednesday. The facility has been equipped with a modern post-mortem unit and 18 state-of-the-art cold storage units, allowing bodies to be preserved safely and medico-legal examinations to be conducted at the hospital itself.

Post-Mortems To Be Conducted In Maninagar

Previously, bodies involved in accidents, sudden deaths and similar cases from East Ahmedabad often had to be transported to distant hospitals for post-mortems and other legal formalities.

With the new facility at LG Hospital, such procedures can now be carried out in Maninagar, reducing the need for long-distance transportation of bodies and helping save time for both police and families.

The mortuary has been equipped with the required instruments and other facilities for conducting post-mortem examinations and medico-legal procedures. Forensic experts and the necessary equipment will also be available at the hospital.

18 Cold Storage Units Installed

The new mortuary has 18 modern cold storage units designed to preserve bodies at appropriate temperatures.

The facility is expected to ease difficulties faced during the transportation of bodies, particularly in accident and sudden-death cases, while reducing the impact of traffic and travel time.

For relatives of the deceased, the facility is expected to make the process of completing post-mortem formalities and claiming bodies more convenient by eliminating the need to travel to distant hospitals.

Facility To Aid Medical Students

The new post-mortem unit will also support practical training for medical students in forensic medicine, toxicology and medico-legal procedures.

According to the hospital administration, the facility will provide easier access to post-mortem and medico-legal services for residents of East Ahmedabad while reducing the area's dependence on hospitals located farther away.
