Dry Spell Ends: Sudden Evening Rains Down On Ahmedabad, Bring Relief From Heat

Ending a month-long dry spell that had left the city sweltering under intense heat and humidity, sudden evening showers swept across Ahmedabad on Saturday, bringing immediate relief to residents. The unexpected shift in weather sent temperatures dropping across both eastern and western pockets of the city, bringing the total seasonal rainfall tally to 25.26 inches — roughly 70.17 per cent of Ahmedabad’s seasonal quota.

Showers Sweep From East To West Across Ahmedabad

The dry weather spell, which had persisted for nearly a month across the city, broke late in the afternoon when dark clouds quickly gathered over the eastern suburbs. The downpour initially lashed eastern localities including Naroda, Memco, Kotarpur, Hanspura, Nikol, Odhav, Ramol, and Vastral.

Within an hour, the rain-bearing weather system pushed westward across the Sabarmati, bringing light to moderate showers to Vishala, Vasna, Sarkhej, Makarba, Shyamal, Ranip, and Nawa Vadaj. The sudden showers quickly cooled the air, bringing welcome relief after weeks of heavy humidity.

Up To 8 mm Rainfall Recorded; Seasonal Tally Hits 70 Per Cent

According to official figures recorded until 7:00 PM, rainfall figures across various municipal zones ranged between 1 mm and 8 mm.

While the shower spell was relatively brief, it proved significant in breaking the prolonged atmospheric stagnation over central Gujarat. With Saturday evening's precipitation, Ahmedabad’s total rainfall for the current monsoon season reached 25.26 inches (641.6 mm), completing 70.17 per cent of its total seasonal average.

Local residents, who had been grappling with oppressive mugginess over the past four weeks, welcomed the sudden drop in temperature as cool winds swept through busy evening markets and residential zones. Weather watchers expect the ambient moisture to keep night-time temperatures comfortable across the city.
