Ahmedabad is witnessing a rise in mosquito-borne and seasonal viral illnesses amid changing weather conditions, with Asarwa Civil Hospital and Sola Civil Hospital reporting a sharp increase in patient footfall and dengue cases. Health authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation as dengue cases have climbed significantly over the past two months.

Dengue Cases Triple At Asarwa Civil Hospital

Ahmedabad Civil Hospital Superintendent Dr Rakesh Joshi said the hospital recorded 94 dengue cases in August, while the figure has risen to 315 in September so far.

More than 300 patients have received treatment for dengue at the hospital this month, reflecting the rise in infections.

The hospital has also been witnessing a heavy overall patient load. More than 29,000 people visited the OPD in the past week, while over 2,400 seriously ill patients were admitted during the same period.

Doctors Warn Against Ignoring Dengue Symptoms

Doctors have advised residents to seek medical attention if they develop symptoms associated with dengue.

High fever, severe weakness or fatigue and fever that does not subside despite medication are among the warning signs highlighted by doctors.

Residents have also been advised against self-medication and urged to consult a doctor and undergo laboratory testing when symptoms persist.

Sola Civil Hospital Records Nearly 16,000 OPD Visits

Sola Civil Hospital has also reported a significant rise in seasonal illnesses.

Dr Kiran Goswami, Assistant Resident Medical Officer at the hospital, said changing weather conditions have contributed to an increase in cases of fever, cold and cough.

The hospital recorded 15,986 OPD visits in one week.

According to hospital data, Sola Civil Hospital has recorded 169 dengue cases and 13 malaria cases. It has also reported four typhoid cases, two swine flu cases and one chikungunya case.

Children Also Reporting Seasonal Illnesses

Children are also being affected by the rise in seasonal infections. Around 100 to 150 children are visiting the paediatric department at Sola Civil Hospital every day for treatment.

Doctors have advised parents to monitor children for persistent fever and other symptoms and seek medical attention when required.

Doctors Advise Residents To Prevent Mosquito Breeding

Doctors at both hospitals have urged residents to take precautions against mosquito-borne diseases, particularly by ensuring that stagnant water does not accumulate in and around homes.

Residents have also been advised to use mosquito nets and seek treatment at a government hospital or the nearest healthcare centre if symptoms develop.
