Crime Branch Arrests Two With MD Drugs in Ahmedabad, Absconding Supplier Booked

Police seize 1.4 grams of mephedrone, two mobile phones and a scooter during New Ranip operation; alleged supplier identified but remains absconding

The Detection of Crime Branch has arrested two men and seized 1.4 grams of mephedrone (MD) during a late-night operation near the New Ranip underbridge, while also naming an alleged supplier who is currently absconding.

Raid Based on Specific Intelligence

The raid was carried out in the early hours of Tuesday following specific intelligence received by the Crime Branch that two individuals were waiting on an Activa scooter with illegal narcotic substances near the road leading from the New Ranip underbridge towards Vande Mataram.

Police said the two suspects were intercepted in front of an electric pole near the public road. They were identified as Abhi Vishnubhai Patel (27), a resident of Vaishnodevi, and Sahil Shaileshbhai Patel (28), a resident of Asarwa.

Mephedrone Confirmed During Spot Examination

During the search, officers allegedly recovered a transparent zip-lock packet containing a brown powder-like substance from Abhi Patel’s possession. The substance was examined at the spot by an FSL scientific officer using a narcotics testing kit and was confirmed to be mephedrone.

The seized contraband weighed a net 1.4 grams, police said.

Besides the narcotic substance, officers seized two mobile phones, a Honda Activa scooter, an empty zip-lock pouch and a handwritten note recovered from the scooter. The total value of the seized property has been estimated at ₹1.04 lakh, including the narcotic substance valued at ₹4,200.

Supplier Named, Search Underway

During preliminary questioning, the two accused allegedly told investigators that they had procured the mephedrone from Akash Thakor, who they claimed had supplied the drugs in cash near the Ranip BRTS workshop on the evening of August 3 after arriving in a black Scorpio vehicle without a registration plate. Police said the alleged supplier remains absconding.

A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the NDPS Act against the two arrested men and the absconding alleged supplier.
