Convicted Killer Out on Bail Allegedly Kills Man in Ahmedabad Over Old Rivalry, Two Arrested

A man who had earlier been sentenced to life imprisonment in a murder case allegedly killed another man within days of being released on bail, following a dispute dating back to 2020 in Ahmedabad’s Thakkarnagar area, police said.

The deceased has been identified as Dilip Sonkar. Police have arrested Bharat alias Bakro Kantibhai Chunara and Rohit Nagarbhai Dantani in connection with the murder.

Attack Over Dispute Dating Back to 2020

According to police, the incident occurred on the night of August 27 near Sai Art, opposite the water tank lane in Thakkarnagar, under the jurisdiction of Krishnanagar police station.

The two accused allegedly confronted Sonkar on the road and got into an argument with him over an old dispute. During the confrontation, they allegedly attacked him multiple times with a sharp-edged weapon.

Sonkar suffered three stab injuries — one to the head and two to his right thigh. He collapsed on the road following the attack as people gathered at the spot.

The accused allegedly fled from the scene after the attack.

Sonkar Dies During Treatment

After receiving information about the incident, Sonkar’s family reached the spot and rushed him to Civil Hospital.

However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment, police said.

CCTV Footage Helps Police Trace Accused

Following the murder, Krishnanagar police launched an investigation and formed a team under the supervision of Police Inspector V H Joshi.

The surveillance team, led by PSI S M Thakor, examined CCTV footage from the area and questioned local residents as part of the investigation.

Police said the investigation helped identify Bharat alias Bakro and Rohit Dantani as the alleged attackers. Both were arrested within a few hours of the incident.

Accused Had Earlier Been Convicted in Murder Case

During the investigation, police found that Bharat had previously been convicted in a murder case registered in 2020.

According to police, Bharat, his brother Vijay alias Bakro Kantibhai Chunara and others had allegedly killed Dharmesh Ashokbhai Marathi, who was a friend of Dilip Sonkar.

Police said Bharat and Vijay were subsequently convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment in that case.

Bharat had recently been released from prison on bail before allegedly becoming involved in the latest murder.

Police Probe Possible Link Between Two Cases

Investigators suspect that the latest killing may be linked to the longstanding dispute arising from the 2020 murder case.

Police are now investigating the circumstances that led to the latest confrontation and whether any other people were involved.

The arrested accused are being questioned about the alleged motive, the sequence of events and the weapon used in the attack. Further investigation is underway.
