Class X Student Suffers Ruptured Eardrum After Alleged Slap by Teacher in Ahmedabad

The incident reportedly took place at Chanakya School in Nikol, where the student was attending a PT class. According to his father, Rameshbhai, the boy was sitting on the school ground with a group of classmates when an English-medium teacher, identified as Laxman Sir, allegedly approached and slapped him without provocation.

Student complains of hearing loss

The family alleged that the slap left the student unable to hear from his left ear. They said the school contacted them on Saturday morning, informing them that their son was crying after the incident and asking them to take him home.

"When we reached the school, our son was in severe pain and said he could no longer hear from his left ear," Rameshbhai said.

Doctor diagnoses ruptured eardrum

The student was immediately taken to an ENT specialist, who reportedly diagnosed a ruptured left eardrum with bleeding and swelling. Doctors have advised observation for seven to ten days, stating that surgery may be required if the injury does not heal naturally.

The family said they remain concerned about the long-term impact on the student's hearing.

School management acknowledges incident

According to the father, a meeting was held with the school's trustees on Monday, during which the management and the teacher allegedly acknowledged that the incident had occurred.

Rameshbhai said that while the school had expressed willingness to support the family, accountability was essential.

"No child should suffer physical violence in a place meant for learning. I want a written assurance that if my son develops any hearing-related complications in future, the school management and the concerned teacher will take full responsibility," he said.

He added that he has initiated legal proceedings to ensure similar incidents are not repeated.

Confirming the development, V.H. Joshi, Police Inspector of Krishnanagar Police Station, said a non-cognisable (NC) complaint had been registered.

Police said the matter is under inquiry.
