An Ahmedabad-based jeweller operating out of CG Road fell victim to an elaborate fraud involving 17 gold sets valued at ₹87.81 lakh, after a trio of local artisans allegedly vanished overnight with the ornaments given to them for traditional jadtar embedding work.

Sanjay Shah, a resident of Prahladnagar who runs a gold and silver showroom on CG Road, lodged an official complaint of criminal breach of trust and cheating at the Vadaj police station against the operators of 'S.S. Ornaments' in New Vadaj.

Built Trust with Initial Deliveries Before Striking

According to the police complaint, Shah initially approached Dipen Ashokbhai Soni, his wife Khushbu Soni, and business partner Parth Soni in early December 2025 to carry out intricate jadtar work. To gain the merchant's confidence, the trio promptly completed and returned the first consignment of three gold sets within the agreed timeframe.

Once Shah’s trust was established, he handed over 17 additional gold sets worth ₹87.81 lakh for further work. Dipen and Parth personally collected the high-value jewelry, while Khushbu provided the formal acknowledgment receipt.

Shut Shop and Fled New Ranip Residence Overnight

The fraud unravelled when Shah’s workshop manager contacted Dipen to pick up the finished consignment. Dipen instructed them to collect the items late in the evening, but subsequently switched off all his mobile numbers.

Sensing trouble, Shah sent his staff to the 'S.S. Ornaments' shop in New Vadaj the following morning. Local society members informed them that the trio had cleared out the rented shop late the previous night. A follow-up visit to their residence in New Ranip revealed that the premises had been completely vacated as well. Vadaj police have registered a case and initiated a manhunt for the three absconding suspects.
