Ahmedabad man alleges he was beaten, threatened and forced out of his home after questioning family members about money from the sale of a property in Noblenagar

A 43-year-old cancer patient has approached Shaherkotda police, alleging that his wife, father-in-law and brother-in-law assaulted him and threatened to kill him after he questioned them about the ₹7.4 lakh proceeds from the sale of a house in Noblenagar.

In a complaint filed on November 4, Shaileshbhai Dhanjibhai, a resident of Bansi Ni Chali on Naroda Road, accused his wife Harshida, father-in-law Ishwarbhai Kalidas Makwana and brother-in-law Pinakinbhai Ishwarbhai Makwana of subjecting him to physical and mental harassment.

Cancer Diagnosis Leaves Complainant Unable to Work

According to the complaint, Shaileshbhai married Harshida in 2017, after both had separated from their previous spouses. Harshida has a 17-year-old daughter from her earlier marriage.

The complainant stated that the couple purchased a house at Bansi Ni Chali in 2023 for ₹9 lakh. He alleged that the purchase was funded through his provident fund savings, loans from his sisters, a contribution from his wife and the sale of her jewellery. The property was subsequently registered in Harshida’s name, and the couple lived there together.

Shaileshbhai alleged that he was diagnosed with cancer on January 29, 2025, after which he became bedridden and could no longer work. During this period, he began receiving a monthly sickness benefit of ₹16,000 under the Employees' State Insurance (ESI) scheme.

He claimed that his wife transferred the benefit amount to her own bank account and did not provide him with proper care.

Alleged Assault Over ₹7.4 Lakh Property Sale

The complainant further alleged that his father-in-law and brother-in-law frequently interfered in the couple’s domestic affairs and instigated his wife against him, leading to arguments at home. He claimed that all three family members assaulted him with sticks and used abusive language.

According to the complaint, the three family members sold the house in Noblenagar for ₹7.4 lakh on April 5, 2025.

When Shaileshbhai questioned them about the sale proceeds on February 18, 2026, they allegedly told him that the money had been spent on his medical treatment. He claimed that the discussion escalated into a confrontation, during which the three allegedly assaulted him, threatened to kill him and forced him out of the house.

Complainant Alleges Threats of False Cases

Shaileshbhai further claimed that he made several attempts to reconcile with his wife, but she refused.

He alleged that she threatened to implicate him and his elder brother in cases of sexual harassment and mental torture. He also claimed that she threatened to file a POCSO case and a molestation complaint involving her daughter if he returned to live at the house.

Shaherkotda Police Register Case

The complainant has sought police action against his wife and her family members over the alleged assault, threats and harassment.

Shaherkotda police have registered a case based on his complaint, and further investigation is underway.
