A 40-year-old brick kiln worker from Uttar Pradesh was allegedly strangled to death by a fellow labourer following a dispute near Mandanpura village in Ahmedabad district’s Dholka taluka on the night of November 1. Dholka Rural police have arrested the accused, Bholeram Bablu Chauhan, in connection with the murder.

According to police, the victim, Pawan Kumar alias Commander, had allegedly attempted to force the accused into sodomy, triggering an argument and physical altercation. The accused allegedly strangled him with his trouser belt during the fight.

Dispute Near Canal Led to Murder

Pawan Kumar, a native of Kasganj district in Uttar Pradesh, had travelled to Gujarat with a group of labourers to work at a brick kiln in the Mandanpura area. The incident reportedly took place between 9 pm and 10 pm near a canal on the outskirts of the village.

Police said Pawan Kumar and Bholeram had left the kiln together during dinner time to fetch something. When they failed to return for a long time, the workers’ supervisor, known locally as the mukadam, went out to look for them.

At around 10 pm, the supervisor found Bholeram near the canal. During questioning, Bholeram allegedly told him that Pawan Kumar had tried to force him into sodomy, leading to a quarrel and physical fight. He allegedly strangled Pawan Kumar with his trouser belt during the altercation.

Supervisor Finds Body, Alerts Police

The supervisor then accompanied Bholeram to a nearby farm, where Pawan Kumar’s body was found. He caught hold of the accused, brought him back to the brick kiln and informed the kiln owner, who alerted the police.

On a complaint filed by the deceased’s elder brother, Dholka Rural police registered a murder FIR on November 2 under the relevant provision of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Accused Arrested on November 3

The accused, Bholeram, is a native of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Pradesh and was working and residing at the brick kiln in Mandanpura. Police arrested him at around 5.30 pm on November 3.

The body was sent to Ahmedabad Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Police Inspector Akshay M Patel of Dholka Rural police station is investigating the case.

Police said the allegation that Pawan Kumar attempted to force the accused into sodomy is based on Bholeram’s account to the kiln supervisor, as recorded during the investigation. Further investigation is underway.
