Boss Scam In Sanand: How Fraudster Posed as Rice Mill Owner on WhatsApp to Dupe Accountant Of ₹80 Lakh

 A hacker allegedly gained access to the mobile phone of an accountant working at a Sanand-based rice mill and used the businessman’s identity on WhatsApp to obtain ₹80 lakh. The fraud was discovered when the accused sought another ₹30 lakh from the accountant.

Hacker Alters Contact Details

The businessman, Pradeep Dileepbhai Ramvani, 40, a Sanand resident who runs a rice mill with its main office in Ahmedabad, had employed Jayesh as an accountant at the factory.

According to the complaint, an unidentified person sent a file to Jayesh’s mobile phone on August 31. After he opened it, the phone was allegedly compromised.

The accused then removed Pradeepbhai’s original number from the contact list and saved his own number under the businessman’s name, along with his WhatsApp profile picture.

₹80 Lakh Sent To Another Bank Account

Using the impersonated identity, the accused allegedly messaged Jayesh on WhatsApp and instructed him to transfer money to another bank account.

Believing the instructions had come from his employer, Jayesh made multiple transfers totalling ₹80 lakh, without Pradeepbhai’s knowledge.

Demand For Another ₹30 Lakh Reveals Fraud

The fraud came to light when the accused allegedly asked Jayesh to arrange a further ₹30 lakh.

Jayesh went to meet Pradeepbhai to discuss the payment. During the conversation, the businessman told him that he had never sent the WhatsApp instructions.

The fraud was then uncovered, following which Pradeepbhai filed a complaint with the Cyber Crime Police. An investigation is underway into the alleged phone hacking, impersonation and financial transactions.
