A 65-year-old retired Narol resident was allegedly cheated of jewellery worth ₹1.20 lakh by a Bopal man who promised to sell the ornaments at a price higher than the prevailing market rate, police said.
Accused Met Elderly Man During Ujjain Visit
The complainant, Hariprasad Maniprasad Tiwari, lives at Laxmi Etania in Narol. According to his complaint, he and his wife visited Ujjain in April 2026 for Mahakal darshan, where they met Kalpesh alias Lalabhai Gohil, a resident of Bopal.
Gohil allegedly told the couple that he was involved in large-scale online trading of gold and silver and claimed that he could secure better prices for jewellery than traders in Ahmedabad.
Jewellery Taken On Promise Of Better Price
On May 3, Gohil allegedly visited Tiwari’s residence and collected two silver anklets weighing around 400 grams and valued at ₹90,000, along with a 2-gram gold ring worth ₹30,000.
He reportedly told Tiwari that he would sell the jewellery to a trader in Manek Chowk and pay him the proceeds within two days.
However, after taking the ornaments, Gohil allegedly began delaying the payment and claimed that the jewellery had low purity. When Tiwari asked him to return the ornaments, the accused allegedly transferred only ₹10,000 to him online.
Narol Police Register Cheating Case
Despite repeated requests, Gohil allegedly neither returned the remaining jewellery nor paid the outstanding amount, continuing to give excuses.
Tiwari subsequently approached Narol Police Station and lodged a complaint against Gohil, alleging that he had been cheated of jewellery worth ₹1.20 lakh. Police have registered a case and launched an investigation into the matter.
