The CID Crime Branch has registered a case against eight people, including two lawyers, for allegedly attempting to usurp 115 vighas of ancestral land worth around ₹70 crore on the outskirts of Makarba village in Ahmedabad through a forged General Power of Attorney (GPA).

The case came to light after Amaratji alias Amrutbhai Pratapji Thakor, a 54-year-old farmer from Kheda district, alleged that the names of the rightful heirs were removed from the revenue records without their knowledge or consent and replaced with those of third parties.

Farmer Refused To Sign Blank Documents

According to the complaint, the disputed land belonged to Thakor’s uncle, Chundaji Bapuji Thakor, who died in 2000. The complainant’s father, Pratapji, passed away in 2022.

Thakor alleged that after Diwali in 2003, four people, including his maternal uncle, visited his home and asked him to sign and provide his thumb impression on a blank sheet of paper. They claimed the signatures were required to initiate the inheritance process for the Makarba land.

However, Thakor refused, insisting that he would sign the inheritance documents only in the presence of the village Talati.

His maternal uncle later returned with Girishbhai Trivedi and Vipul H. Raval, allegedly introducing them as lawyers. The group again pressured him to sign and provide his thumb impression, citing the urgency of the inheritance process. Thakor refused to sign the blank document.

Heirs’ Names Allegedly Removed From Revenue Records

The complainant later learnt that the names of other individuals had been entered in the records of the ancestral land. During an inquiry at the Talati’s office, he discovered that his rights and those of his siblings had allegedly been removed from the revenue records in December 2023 without their consent.

The complaint alleges that a fraudulent General Power of Attorney had been created in the family’s name to facilitate the transfer and sale of the land.

An application was subsequently submitted to the Talati, and the matter was taken up with the CID Crime branch.

CID Crime Registers Case Against Eight Accused

The CID Crime Branch has registered a fraud case against eight accused, including two lawyers, and launched an investigation into the alleged forgery and attempted land grab.

The investigation will examine how the disputed GPA was created and how the names of the original heirs were allegedly removed from the revenue records.
