Bakery Items In Ahmedabad Under Scanner: Worms Found In Flour, Two Units Sealed

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has intensified inspections of bakeries ahead of the festive season, sealing two units in Narol-Lambha and Behrampura after finding alleged hygiene violations. Worms were reportedly found in flour at Prince Bakery in Behrampura during the inspection.

Muskaan, Prince Bakeries Sealed

The AMC Health and Food Department inspected Muskaan Bakery in Narol-Lambha and Prince Bakery in Behrampura and found violations related to food hygiene and safety.
At Muskaan Bakery, officials found that the unit did not have a food licence or registration. The bakery was also allegedly not following prescribed hygienic conditions and did not have a pest-control certificate.
Officials further noted that bakery products were being prepared under unhygienic conditions. The unit was subsequently sealed under provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 and the GPMC Act.

Worms Found In Flour At Prince Bakery

The inspection at Prince Bakery also revealed alleged violations of food safety and hygiene requirements.
The most serious finding was the presence of worms in the flour being used at the bakery. Officials also found that the unit did not have a pest-control certificate.
Following the inspection, the bakery was sealed by the AMC Food Department.

5,700 Kg Flour, Sugar Seized From Asian Bakery

The latest action follows another inspection carried out at Asian Bakery in Danilimda on August 11.
The AMC Food Department reportedly found unhygienic conditions at the bakery and seized around 5,700 kg of flour and sugar.
The inspections indicate that the civic body has stepped up checks on bakeries and other food businesses ahead of the festive season, when demand for bakery products and sweets typically rises.

More Bakeries To Face Inspections

The AMC Food Department said inspections would continue at food businesses across the city, with a focus on hygiene conditions and food licences or registrations.
Units found operating without the required licence or registration, or violating food safety norms, will face action under the FSSAI and GPMC Act, officials said.
With the festive season approaching, the department is expected to intensify checks on bakeries, sweet shops and other food establishments to examine hygiene standards, licensing and the quality of raw materials.
