Anandnagar PG Horror: Accused Shot In Leg After Attacking Police Team During Crime Scene Reconstruction

A routine crime scene reconstruction took a dramatic turn in Ahmedabad’s upscale Hebatpur area on Sunday after a rape accused allegedly attacked a police team and attempted to break away from custody, forcing an officer to shoot him in the leg in self-defence.

The accused, identified as Dharm Singh, had been arrested by Anandnagar police for allegedly raping a young interior design student at a paying guest (PG) accommodation where he had been hired as a security guard just days earlier.

Escapade Ends In Gunfire Near Hebatpur

According to senior officers, an Anandnagar police team had escorted Singh to the Hebatpur locality to conduct a spot panchnama—a crucial legal procedure involving site verification and crime scene reconstruction.

During the proceedings, Singh suddenly attempted to break free. When officers moved in to restrain him, the accused violently assaulted the personnel on duty in a bid to escape. As the scuffle intensified, a police officer opened fire, hitting Singh in the leg to neutralize the threat and prevent his escape.

A police constable sustained injuries during the altercation and was rushed to a local hospital alongside the wounded accused for medical treatment.

PG Security Under Scrutiny Following Attack

The incident stems from a high-profile rape case registered at Anandnagar police station that sparked outrage across the city. Singh, who was recently employed at the private PG facility in Anandnagar, allegedly assaulted the female student inside the premises after gaining access to the residential quarters.

Police officials confirmed that formal investigations are underway into both the original assault and the circumstances leading to the firing. Authorities are documenting the assault on police officers, the attempted escape, and the officer’s use of force to ensure all procedural mandates are strictly met.
