Anandnagar PG Horror: Accused Shot In Leg After Attempting To Snatch Inspector’s Pistol During Evidence Recovery

A high-profile investigation into a horrific assault took a dramatic turn in Ahmedabad’s Hebatpur area after a rape accused allegedly tried to snatch a police inspector's service firearm and escape custody, forcing personnel to open fire.

The accused, identified as Dharamsinh, had been arrested within hours of allegedly sexually assaulting an interior design student at a paying guest (PG) accommodation in the Anandnagar area. The midnight showdown in Hebatpur unfolded while officers were attempting to recover the victim's stolen mobile phone during a formal scene-of-crime panchnama.

Violent Scuffle Breaks Out During Phone Recovery

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Zone 7, Shivam Verma, Dharamsinh—a native of Uttar Pradesh who was hired as a security guard at the PG facility just a week before the crime—had stolen the victim's phone after committing the assault.

When an Anandnagar police team escorted the accused to a secluded patch in Hebatpur to locate the device, Dharamsinh suddenly turned violent. Police said the suspect attempted to break free and tried to grab the service pistol of Police Inspector R S Parmar. During the chaotic struggle that ensued, Constable Virendrasinh sustained injuries while trying to restrain the accused.

As Dharamsinh continued to resist and attempted to overpower the officers, police fired two rounds in self-defence, striking the accused in the leg. Both the injured constable and Dharamsinh were immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment, with officials confirming both are in stable condition.

Terrifying Late-Night Assault At Anandnagar PG

The shooting stems from a shocking incident that sparked massive outrage across the city. According to the survivor's complaint, the interior design student had gone to the terrace of her PG facility at night when Dharamsinh ambushed her. The security guard allegedly wrapped a wire around her neck to overpower her, sexually assaulted her, and fled with her mobile phone.

Following the complaint, special teams from the local police, Local Crime Branch (LCB), and Crime Branch launched a massive manhunt, apprehending the suspect within hours. Prior to the shooting, Dharamsinh had already undergone medical examinations and DNA sampling as part of standard forensic protocols.

Second FIR Registered As Investigation Deepens

The gunfight has now triggered fresh criminal charges against the accused guard. DCP Verma confirmed that proceedings are underway to lodge a separate FIR against Dharamsinh at the Bodakdev Police Station under Section 308 of the Indian Penal Code for attempting to commit culpable homicide.

Senior officers are documenting the exact sequence of events, evaluating the attempt to snatch the officer's service weapon, and reviewing the law enforcement team's tactical response during the confrontation.
