The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will switch to a digital system for distributing agendas of its general body meetings and all committee meetings from November, doing away with printed copies sent to corporators and officials.

The move aims to reduce paper consumption, protect the environment and cut administrative expenditure on printing and distributing meeting agendas.

Until now, the AMC printed agendas for general body meetings, the Standing Committee and other committees, and distributed copies to corporators, committee members and concerned officials. Under the new arrangement, the agendas will be shared through email.

GPMC Act Amended To Enable Digital Distribution

Mayor Hitesh Barot said reducing paper consumption was necessary because trees are used in paper production. The civic body has therefore introduced digital distribution of agendas for its various committees.

However, the existing provisions required general body meeting agendas to be delivered to the homes of all corporators. The AMC held discussions with the state government to change this arrangement.

Following the discussions, the necessary amendment was made to the Gujarat Provincial Municipal Corporations (GPMC) Act, paving the way for general body meeting agendas to be sent digitally.

Printed Copies At Corporators’ Homes And Meeting Tables To Stop

From November, printed copies of general body meeting agendas will no longer be delivered to corporators’ homes. The practice of placing an individual printed copy on every corporator’s table during meetings will also be discontinued.

Instead, all corporators and concerned officials will receive the agendas by email.

The digital system is expected to reduce the use of paper as well as expenses incurred on printing and distributing agenda copies.
