AMC Seizes 408 Kg Suspected Low-Fat Paneer Brought To Ahmedabad In Luxury Buses, Samples Sent For Testing

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Department has seized around 408 kg of suspected low-fat paneer allegedly brought to the city from Rajasthan in luxury buses, with samples sent to a laboratory to determine whether the product meets food safety standards.

Acting on a tip-off that paneer was being transported to Ahmedabad from other states using luxury vehicles, officials from the AMC Food Department kept surveillance near Devki Garden in Maninagar early on Thursday.

According to Food Officer Dr Tejas Shah, officials spotted two luxury buses bearing registration markings of Arunachal Pradesh at the location. During inspection, they found a large quantity of paneer being transported inside the vehicles.

The product was reportedly being sold as “low-fat paneer” at around ₹240 per kg, while the packets carried an MRP ranging between approximately ₹400 and ₹450 per kg.

The labels on the packets indicated that the product had been manufactured at units located in Jodhpur and Pali in Rajasthan.

408 Kg Stock Seized

AMC officials stopped the sale and distribution of approximately 408 kg of the paneer and shifted the entire stock to cold storage.

Officials said the circumstances in which the product was being transported had raised questions about its quality. However, the Food Department has not yet established that the paneer was adulterated.

Samples from the seized stock have been collected and sent for laboratory examination. The exact composition and quality of the product will be known only after the test results are received.

Buyers From Naroda, Maninagar Questioned

According to the Food Department, individuals from Naroda and Maninagar had allegedly arrived at the location to collect the paneer.

Preliminary inquiries suggested that the buyers were involved in distributing the product at different locations in the city. The AMC is now gathering details about the intended recipients and the locations where the paneer was allegedly to be supplied.

Officials are also examining the manufacturing units named on the product labels and tracing the broader supply chain from Rajasthan to Ahmedabad.

Dr Shah said further action would be taken against the manufacturers, suppliers or buyers if violations of food safety regulations are established through laboratory results and the subsequent investigation.

Officials said the seizure was part of the AMC’s efforts to check the entry and sale of food products of questionable quality in Ahmedabad, particularly those transported into the city through inter-state supply networks.
