AMC School, Party Plot Among 18 Units Fined For Mosquito Breeding

Amid the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation's efforts to make the city mosquito-free, mosquito breeding was found at several civic properties, including Sarasur Gujarati School, a municipal party plot and EWS-LIG housing units, during a health department inspection.

The AMC health department inspected 612 premises on World Mosquito Day and issued notices to 108 establishments for mosquito breeding and unhygienic conditions. A total of 18 units were fined.

Municipal School, Party Plot Among Units Fined

Mosquito breeding was detected at Saraspur Gujarati School No. 13, where hundreds of students study, as well as at the AMC-run open party plot in Vastral and EWS-LIG quarters in Naroda.

The three civic properties were reportedly fined between ₹5,000 and ₹10,000 each for mosquito breeding.

The inspection drive also resulted in the recovery of a total ₹2.53 lakh in fines from 17 establishments, including construction sites and factories.

Two Construction Sites Sealed

The health department also found mosquito breeding at the construction site of an AMC-run rain shelter in Sarkhej and at the Ashirwad Levies construction site in Lambha.

Both sites were subsequently sealed following the findings.

108 Establishments Served Notices

The action was carried out on World Mosquito Day as the AMC conducted awareness campaigns in residential societies and public places, urging citizens to take steps to prevent mosquito breeding.

However, the discovery of breeding sites at civic properties has raised questions over the implementation of mosquito-control measures at AMC premises themselves.

During the inspection, 612 units were checked, with 108 receiving notices over mosquito breeding and unhygienic conditions.
