AMC Sacks Chief Fire Officer Amit Dongre Following ₹36,000 ACB Bribe Trap

In a disciplinary move, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has dismissed Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Amit Dongre from service after he was trapped by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) for accepting a ₹36,000 bribe. The civic administration terminated Dongre's appointment with immediate effect, cutting short his probation period following his direct link to the corruption racket.

Bribe Demanded for Fire Safety NOC Renewals

The action stems from a bribery complaint involving fire safety clearances for commercial and residential properties. Investigators revealed that a bribe of ₹6,000 per building was demanded to approve Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) renewals for six structures across Ahmedabad, totaling ₹36,000.

Acting on a complaint from a citizen, the ACB laid a trap on Friday. Operatives caught a mediator, Bhavsinh Jhala, red-handed while accepting the cash sum. Subsequent questioning and evidence gathered at the scene exposed the direct involvement and consent of CFO Amit Dongre, leading to formal legal proceedings against him.

Probation Termination Ends Short Tenure

Dongre was appointed as Ahmedabad's Chief Fire Officer in late 2024 and was serving on probation. Following his arrest and the gravity of the corruption charges, the AMC leadership chose not to confirm his service, opting instead to cancel his appointment and terminate him immediately.

The AMC administration emphasized that the dismissal sends a clear message against corruption within civic departments, particularly in critical safety and licensing divisions.
