AMC Issues 14,759 Notices Over Mosquito Breeding, Collects ₹1.07 Crore in Charges

The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation has intensified mosquito-control measures during the monsoon, issuing notices to 14,759 construction sites and commercial units and collecting more than ₹ 1.07 crore in administrative charges.

Construction Sites, Commercial Units Under Scanner

The AMC Health Department inspected 9,677 construction sites across the city as part of its malaria-control drive. Mosquito breeding and other lapses were detected at 3,529 sites, which were issued notices.

The civic body collected ₹ 65.66 lakh in administrative charges from these sites.

The Vector Borne Disease Control Branch also inspected 82,383 commercial units across Ahmedabad. Notices were issued to 11,230 units where mosquito breeding or other irregularities were detected, with ₹ 41.61 lakh collected in administrative charges.

Residential Areas Also Checked

AMC teams have extended inspections to residential societies and private premises. Awareness programmes were conducted in 828 societies during the past week.

Mosquito breeding was detected at 1,145 units, which were issued notices. The civic body collected ₹ 26,300 in administrative charges during these checks.

Teams are inspecting potential breeding spots such as old tyres, plastic containers, buckets, coolers, flower pots, bird-water containers and open water tanks on rooftops.

So far this year, indoor inspections have been carried out at 6.66 lakh houses, with mosquito breeding found at 16,752 locations. Blood samples were also collected from the homes of 3,677 people suffering from fever.

Government and Private Premises Inspected

AMC teams have also checked government, semi-government and private properties amid the monsoon.

Of 1,292 government and semi-government units inspected during the past week, mosquito breeding was found at 64 locations. Among 2,039 private premises checked, breeding was detected at 259 locations.

258 Fogging Machines Deployed

The civic body currently has 258 fogging machines operating across different municipal wards to control mosquito populations.

More than 5,100 oil balls have been used at locations where indoor inspections could not be carried out. Malaria larvicide oil and BTI have been applied in 1,635 small and large water-filled areas.

Gambusia fish have also been introduced at 147 large water-filled pits to help control mosquito larvae.

Nearly 12 Lakh Blood Samples Collected

During 2026, AMC teams have collected 11.79 lakh blood samples for detecting mosquito-borne diseases.

The health department has also collected 41,606 dengue serum samples and 8,117 chikungunya serum samples as part of its disease surveillance and prevention efforts.
