AMC Food Department Inspects 15 Hostel Canteens, Messes; 42 Food Samples Collected

The Amdavad Municipal Corporation's Health Food Department has inspected 15 canteens and hostel messes across the city to check food quality and safety, collecting 42 food samples for laboratory testing.

The inspections were carried out under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, with officials checking food preparation and storage practices, kitchen hygiene, cleanliness of utensils and equipment, drinking water arrangements and waste disposal.

Officials also checked whether food and raw materials were properly stored and whether prepared food was kept covered. Canteen and mess operators were instructed to strictly comply with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and the rules framed under it.

42 Samples Sent For Laboratory Testing

The 42 food samples collected during the inspections have been sent to the Public Health Laboratory for examination.

Further action will be taken after the laboratory reports are received and the quality of the samples and compliance with food safety standards are assessed. If any violations are detected, legal action will be initiated under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and applicable regulations.

Focus On Students' Health

The AMC Food Department instructed hostel canteen and mess operators to ensure that safe, hygienic and quality food is prepared, stored and served, keeping students' health in mind.

The department said inspections of food establishments, hotels, restaurants, canteens and messes are carried out periodically to ensure food quality and safety across Ahmedabad.
