Major fire safety violation in 154 hotels and 62 tuition classes found in Ahmedabad

Following the recent fire incident at a hotel in Delhi and a coaching centre in Lucknow, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) launched a fire safety inception drive across the city. The inspection covered hotels, tuition classes and other educational institutions.

During the drive, officials found serious fire safety violations in 154 hotels and 62 tuition classes and educational institutions. Notices have been issued to all of them, asking them to fix the problems.

The inspection has raised concerns because many of these establishments have been operating for several years. They were not opened recently, yet the fire safety issues came to light only after the latest inspection. This has raised questions about whether regular checks were being carried out by the authorities.

According to the AMC, action has already been taken against those who failed to follow the rules. Thirteen hotels and one educational institution have been sealed after they did not correct the fire safety deficiencies even after receiving notices. Officials said the highest number of notices to hotels was issued in the West Zone, while the largest number of educational institutions receiving notices was in the East Zone.

This is not the first time the civic body has carried out such inspections. In the past, similar action was taken against hospitals, game zones and other public places after major fire incidents. However, people often question whether these places are inspected regularly once the initial action is over.
